They say in Vietnam you don’t ask someone if they have a motorbike, you ask someone what kind of motorbike they have. It doesn’t take long to realise everyone has a motorbike (or as we call them scooter). They swarm the streets, they block the pavements, every house has a special ramp to get their bike inside…the motorbike is a cultural staple of Vietnam.
And with society being run on motorbikes, everything gets carried on a motorbike. When I say everything, I mean everything – fridges, loads of chickens, windows, a family of 5…there is not much that can’t be transported on a motorbike.
Here is a collection of some of my favourite images of crazy loads that no one blinks an eye over (except for us tourists).
And of course, they make a good resting spot.
