The main stupa of the pagoda is 98 metres high and is covered by more than 30 tons of gold and hundreds of diamonds. At night the Golden Pagoda comes alight and can be seen from all over Yangon. This is one of the busiest areas of the town, especially in the evening when both sides of the street are filled with food vendors selling all kinds of food from fresh produce to ready-made things to eat.
