Intro

Malacca, Penang and Kuala Lumpur - a great Malaysian combo. Wander amongst the historical buildings and World Heritage listed areas of Penang & Malacca as well as the modern delights of KL. Soak up a unique cultural mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and the West. This 10 day, 5 Star, private holiday is a wonderful insight into Malaysia and its history.

Day 1: Arrival in Kuala Lumpur and transfer to Malacca

Upon arriving in Kuala Lumpur, you will be met at the airport and transferred to Malacca (135km South of Kuala Lumpur, approximately 2 hours drive). Your driver will take you to your hotel in Malacca for check-in.

Overnight in Malacca: The Majestic Malacca - Deluxe Room (5 Star)

Day 2: Discover the wonders of the historical city of Malacca

Malacca, formerly Kota Melaka, and still known as Melaka, is a historic city on the Malay Peninsula's South West coast. Once one of the greatest trading ports in South East Asia, today it is a popular tourist destination known for its heritage and history.

Travelbay Malaysia Tours - A Famosa, Malacca

Take a day tour of the city where you will discover much of the city's history - from the Portuguese to the Dutch and Chinese, Malacca has a rich history. On Heritage Walk, visit A Famosa - one of the oldest remains of European architecture in South East Asia, St Paul's Hill, Dutch Square, Jonker St, the Cheng Hoon temple - Malaysia's oldest traditional Chinese temple and the Baba Nyonya Museum.

Following a traditional Peranakan lunch, enjoy a river cruise with views of the Strait of Malacca surrounding you.

Overnight in Malacca: The Majestic Malacca - Deluxe Room (5 Star)

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch

Day 3: Enjoy a day at leisure in Malacca

Spend the day at leisure in Malacca.

You may like to enjoy the pool and facilities at the hotel. The Majestic Malacca is set on the Malacca River and is a short walk from many of the local attractions and sights including the Jonker Street Night Market open on Friday - Sunday evenings (well worth a visit both for eating, shopping and entertainment).

Overnight in Malacca: The Majestic Malacca - Deluxe Room (5 Star)

Day 4: Fly to Penang

Today you will be collected and transferred to the airport in Kuala Lumpur for your flight to Penang. In Penang you will be taken to your hotel located in the World Heritage area of George Town.

PLEASE NOTE: The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Penang is NOT included. You can either book this directly (with Malaysian Airlines or Air Asia) or book it as part of your international flights to and from Malaysia. We don’t include it because the price varies too much depending on dates. We recommend booking an early afternoon flight to allow for your transfer from Malacca to KL. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like a quote for flights.

Overnight in Penang: Eastern and Oriental – Victory Annexe Studio Suite (5 Star)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 5: Discover George Town and Penang Island

Penang was once known as the "Pearl of the Orient". When Singapore was founded in 1819 it was the end of George Town's economic success. Consequently, it entered somewhat of a time warp with very little development taking place. This has resulted in the George Town you will find today with well-preserved colonial and Chinese buildings.

Travelbay Malaysia Tours, George Town, Penang

Take a heritage walk in George Town passing buildings of the colonial era, stroll the streets of Little India and discover the Chinese Clan Houses. No tour of Penang would be complete without Armenian Street - lying within the core zone of the George Town World Heritage Street and is lined with galleries, shophouses and cafes.

Overnight in Penang: Eastern and Oriental – Victory Annexe Studio Suite (5 Star)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 6: A day at leisure in Penang

Enjoy Penang at your leisure.

Your hotel lies in the heart of George Town overlooking the Andaman Sea. You may like to relax by the pool or take a wander in George Town. Penang is known for its food and has what many consider some of the best food in Southeast Asia.

If you would like to arrange an additional day tour, please contact us for options.

Overnight in Penang: Eastern and Oriental - Deluxe Suite (5 Star)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 7: Fly to Kuala Lumpur

Today you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Kuala Lumpur. On arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel.

Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dates of the tour?

You can pretty much choose any date (subject to availability) and we can usually accommodate everyone including short notice and long term bookings.

Is my departure guaranteed?

Once you have paid for your booking and received confirmation of your travel dates from Travelbay, your holiday is guaranteed on your chosen departure date - except in cases of major weather events and alike in which case we do our best to adjust your holiday accordingly.

How much is the tour?

Travelbay provides pricing options based on twin share (2 people per room) or for single travellers (one person travelling). Please see the pricing at the top of the page.

If you are in a group of 2 or more and would like a single room or you would like triple share, please contact us for a quote.

Can I add extra nights?

Yes, with pleasure. Just let us know how many extra nights you would like either before or after and we will arrange for you to stay at the same hotel and let you know the cost of the extra nights.

Arriving early or staying on won't affect your airport transfers - if you're staying at the same hotel and we book it for you, we'll collect you when you arrive and take you to the airport when it's time for your departure flight.

Can I change the itinerary?

Yes, we can alter the itinerary for you so that you get exactly what you are after.

We can provide you with a quote for any changes you wish to make.

What is the size of the group?

This tour is a Private Tour. It will be only your and your travel companions and you will travel in a private vehicle with your own personal driver and guide.

Do you have single traveller pricing?

Yes, please contact us for a quote.

Can we do triple share?

Yes, triple share is available at most hotels. Please contact us for a quote.

When is the best time to travel to Malaysia?

You can visit Malaysia year round. The best beach weather for the West coast is from December to February. The rainy season is from May to October and in September and October the downpours can be heavier.

Do I need any vaccinations?

We recommend you check with your doctor as to any immunisations that you may require or that are recommended for your travels. Alternatively, you can visit The Travel Doctor or Travelvax for more information.

Do I need a visa for Malaysia?

Australian passport holders do not require a visa for tourist travel in Malaysia.

If a visa is required it is your responsibility to ensure you have obtained a valid visa prior to travel.

To find out the visa requirements for Malaysia, you can check here with Visalink.

If a visa is required you can use the services on the same link, or you may wish to apply directly yourself.

In addition to the above link, we have provided some more information on visas for Malaysia here: Visa Information page.

Please note: We attempt to provide you with the latest information and links. However, please be aware that it is each traveller’s responsibility (and not Travelbay’s) to ensure that you have a valid visa if required for any country you visit.

Is tipping customary and how much do I tip?

A few customers have asked us about tipping. Really this is a personal matter, not obligatory and at your discretion.

Some like to provide the tour guides for the day trips with a few dollars a day and a little less for the driver. If you love your guide you can of course offer more – it really is up to you.

Tipping tip: It can be handy to have small notes for tipping.

What is internet access like in Malaysia?

Internet access in hotels and tourist areas is common. In the more remote areas access may be limited.

Can I use my mobile phone in Malaysia?

Mobile reception is good in the urban areas and big cities. The more remote areas may not have network coverage.

What currency do they use and can I get money out of an ATM?

The currency used in Malaysia is the Malaysian Ringgit

What currency to take over there is a personal choice. Some people prefer to take US$ cash as a backup whilst others prefer to take AUD$ cash – it depends on what you are comfortable with. There are ATM machines available in Kuala Lumpur.

Major credit cards are accepted in the hotels. At smaller family type restaurants, market stalls and in small towns, it's not likely you'll be able to use your credit card.

We recommend letting your bank know that you will be using your card in Borneo to avoid them freezing any 'suspicious' activity.

What type of adaptor plug do I need for Malaysia?

Type G (Irish/British 3-pin)

A useful resource to find out what plug or adaptor you might need for any country can be found by clicking here: https://whatplug.info/to/ and then selecting the country or countries you are visiting.

Travel tip: Take a power board with multiple outlets. This way you can use the one adaptor and plug in multiple devices or electronics.

What happens on arrival?

When you arrive into Malaysia there will be someone waiting for you after you clear customs at the airport with a sign with your name on it. If you can’t see them inside the arrival lounge, they will be waiting just outside the doors. Sometimes they have the Travelbay logo but it is your name that you will most likely notice.

Do I need travel insurance for Malaysia?

Travelbay strongly recommend travel insurance – we are very happy to provide you with a free quote.

Can I contact you?

You most certainly can.

Whilst our official office hours are Monday to Friday - 9am to 5.30pm AET (Sydney time) we are regularly in the office outside of these hours and at weekends.

Malaysia weather

Travelbay Malaysia Tours - Malaysia Weather

Malaysia lies close to the equator (Kuala Lumpur’s latitude is 3.139° N), and therefore its climate is classed as “equatorial”. This means it is hot and humid year round. Day time temperatures are frequently above 30°C and nighttime temperatures do not often drop below 20°C.

Wet season: On the West coast the wet season is from April to October. There can be thunderstorms with brief downpours. Travelling at this time can still be excellent, however in September and October the downpours can be heavier and so if you are wanting to go diving or snorkelling this may not be the best time of year as visibility will be reduced.

How to get there

Travelbay Borneo Tours - How to get there

Flights from Australia to Malaysia are approximately $450-$900 per person return. The actual price varies depending on departure city, time of year and luck of the draw!

Travelbay works together with an excellent corporate flight booking company and we would be happy to provide you with a quote and organise your flights. We charge a $50 booking fee for this service.
