Toronto to Niagara Falls, Washington DC and New York : 11 days

Spend 11 days on the East Coast of the USA and Canada on this fantastic tour that covers the highlights of the region. Begin in Canada's largest and most multicultural city and take a day trip to Niagara Falls before flying South to Washington D.C. Visit the iconic monuments, wander the streets and discover the history, arts and culture before taking the train to New York City. While in New York visit Times Square and Central Park, take a walk down Broadway and Wall St, see the views from the Empire State Building and take the ferry to The Statue of Liberty...and not to mention all the fantastic shopping and dining on offer.

A note on pricing: We are able to offer this tour with 2 different prices - low season and peak season. As it is such a fabulous destination all year round, peak season covers much of the year. There are limited dates available during low season.

Day 1: Arrival in Toronto

Welcome to Toronto. On arrival at the International Airport in Toronto you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2: Hop On Hop Off Toronto Tour

Toronto is known for its multiculturalism and diversity - it is estimated that over 30% of Torontonians speak a language other than French or English. It is the largest city in Canada and lies on the shore of Lake Ontario.

See the sights of Toronto with a 48 hour Hop On Hop Off Guided Tour. With your 2 day pass see what Toronto has to offer, all at your own pace. There are 21 scheduled stops along the loop track and you are free to get on and off as many times as you like. Visit the St. Lawrence Market, the Distillery District - a national historic site with heritage buildings, cafes, restaurants and shops, Yonge-Dundas Square, Eaton Centre - the historic mall with a glass ceiling and much more.

Day 3: The sights and diversity of Toronto

Continue your sightseeing of Toronto with your Hop On Hop Off Tour. Visit more sights such as Casa Loma - the gothic castle in the middle of the city built by Sir Henry Pellatt to fulfil his childhood wish for a castle, City Hall, Bata Shoe Museum with its interesting collection of footwear from around the world, the village of Yorkville and more.

Day 4: The magnificent Niagara Falls

Today take a full day tour to Niagara Falls. After breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel for the 1.5 hour drive. Niagara Falls lie on the border between Canada and the USA and are made up of 3 waterfalls - Horseshoe Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls. Horseshoe Falls lies on the Canadian side and is the largest with a drop of 50 metres. Words and photography do not do justice to this natural wonder of the world.

Enjoy the wonder of the falls up close and feel the mist on your face with Maid of the Mist boat ride included as part of the tour. Return to Toronto in the afternoon.

Day 5: Fly to Washington DC - monumental America

Today check out of your hotel by noon and make your way to the airport for your flight to Washington DC (airport transfer not included). 

Please note: The flight from Toronto to Washington DC is not included in the price of this tour because you can get a better price when you buy it with your international flights. The approximate cost is USD130 and flight duration is 1 hour 45 mins.

We would be happy to arrange this flight for you in conjunction with your international flights to and from Australia. We can only arrange the Toronto - DC flight if we arrange all your international flights. Otherwise, please feel free to make your own arrangements for the flight. 

On arrival in Washington DC, make your own way to your hotel. Begin your 72 hour Hop On Hop Off tour at your leisure this afternoon.

Day 6: The White House, Lincoln memorial - DC's finest

Experience all the sights and top spots of Washington DC with your Hop On Hop Off Guided Tour. Visit the US Capitol, view the White House from a distance, the Lincoln Memorial and more - a great way to get to know the history and see the iconic sights of the USA. 

Buses run daily every 20-30 mins with the first departure at 9am and the last departure at 5pm from Union Station.

Day 7: Take the train to New York City

Continue your Hop On Hop Off Tour in the morning. You can check out of your hotel and leave your bags at the front desk. 

Transfer to Union Station for your mid-afternoon train to New York City (approximately 3 hours 25 mins). Disembark the train at Penn Station in the heart of Manhattan and make your way to your hotel. 

You are in New York City - The Big Apple, The City That Never Sleeps...a bucket list city for many. A metropolis with 8.5 million inhabitants, it is internationally known not only for its iconic sights but as being a global influence in all areas, be it fashion, finances, art, culture… soak up the ambience of one of the world’s most famous cities.

Day 8: Times Square, The Statue of Liberty, Central Park...

Check-in at the Tour Center in Times Square (a short walk from your hotel) for your tickets for your 72 hour Hop On Hop Off Guided Tour of New York. Enjoy the 3 day double-decker bus pass with unlimited hop on hop off access on the Downtown, Uptown, Brooklyn and Bronx tour loops. The guides will talk you through the history and background of the views and sights. Hop off and enjoy the attractions at your own pace...Times Square, Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty and much more. 

Admission to the Empire State Building is included. Take in the 360° panorama of NYC and beyond from the 86th Floor Observatory and climb one of New York's most iconic buildings. 

Take the ferry to Liberty Island and get up close to the Statue of Liberty. The ferry admission is included.

With your 72 hour pass you can hop on and hop off as many times as you like over the next 3 days.

Day 9: More NYC sightseeing

Continue your sightseeing of NYC with your Guided Tour. Hop off the bus and explore the sights up close. When you are ready to move on, hop on the next bus. Buses run approximately every 30 mins and there are approximately 50 stops. 

An evening Manhattan tour is included and this can be done on any of the days in NYC.

Day 10: New York delights

Continue to explore the delights of NYC or go back and visit some of your favourite places.

    How to get there:
    This tour starts in Toronto, Canada and ends in New York, USA.

    Visa information: 
    If a visa is required for any country you are visiting it is each travellers responsibility to ensure they have obtained a valid visa prior to travel. Every country has different requirements and it also depends on the nationality of the passport you are travelling on.

    Currency information:
    The currency used in the USA is the US Dollar.

    What currency to take over there is a personal choice. Some people prefer to take US$ cash whilst others prefer to take AUD$ cash to convert when there – it depends on what you are comfortable with. There are ATM machines available and you should let your bank know that you will be using your card over there to avoid them freezing any 'suspicious' activity.

    Tipping and tour guides:
    A few customers have asked us about tipping. Really this is a personal matter, not obligatory and at your discretion. However in the USA tipping is common and in some cases expected. 

    Wages in the USA are much lower as they take into account tipping. 

    We have provided the below indication as a guide only. As a default, 15% is good to keep in mind. 

    • Airport porters: $1-2 per bag
    • Hotel porters: $1-3 per bag
    • House keeping/room service: not obligatory but can make a difference, a few dollars left on your pillow.
    • Fast food: no tip
    • Dining: 15-20% for the waiter.
    • Tour guides and drivers: $5 or more depending on their service. 

    For tour guides and drivers, it is not expected and can be at your own discretion. If you have received great service then feel free to tip generously.

    Vaccination information:

    Toronto: The summers in Toronto are sunny and July temperatures average 21°C. July is the wettest month and can be quite humid. The winter months are cold with snow common from mid-December to mid-march. Temperatures in January average -3°C. 

    New York and Washington D.C: The summer months of June, July, August and September have nice weather generally speaking (no guarantees!) with a daytime average of 26°C. January is the coolest month with temperatures around 2°C. April is the wettest month and October the driest.   

    Peak season: New York is popular all year round. In Toronto, the warmer months of late April through to September and October see more visitors.

    Booking Process:

    Upon purchase of your tour online you will immediately receive a receipt and order confirmation. Travelbay will contact the tour operator to confirm availability for all accommodation and transportation for your tour.

    As soon as we have confirmed the dates (usually within 48 hours sometimes a little longer at weekends) we will email you your booking confirmation.

    We will request further information from you to ensure that all your personal preferences are taken care of. This will include details such as your accommodation preferences, dietary requests, allergies, health issues, emergency contact and any special requirements. We will also request copies of the passport for each traveller so that we can organise and book all the flights that are listed as being included in the price of this tour.

    Very Important:

    It is extremely rare for any of these tours to not have availability (as we remove them when full) however, it is important to note that your dates are only confirmed once we have been in touch with you to confirm availability. Therefore, please wait on purchasing your international flights until you have received booking confirmation from us.

    In the unlikely event that there is no availability on your chosen date we will offer you alternate dates. If these do not suit we will fully refund your payment.

    Booking Information:

    • Quoted prices are per person.
    • Booking valid for selected and booked travel dates.

    • Maximum group size: There is no maximum group size as for this holiday you will join other tour groups for the tours listed. If you have a large group and would like a private tour, please contact us.
    • Prior to completion of your booking we take great care to go through all the details together with you until we get everything exactly as you would like it. At that point we confirm your booking and the details and you pay for it. If after payment, you decide to make further changes we will do what we can to accommodate them and will also need to charge an additional $50 administration fee.

      • It is also your responsibility to ensure that you hold a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond your date of return.
