Day 1: Arrival in Siem Reap

Arrive in Siem Reap where you will be met on arrival and taken to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day/evening is free for you to relax.

Overnight in Siem Reap: La Niche d’ Angkor Boutique Hotel - Deluxe Room (Standard); Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room (Deluxe); Angkor Palace Resort & Spa - Deluxe Room (Super Deluxe)

Meals included: None

Day 2: Full Day tour of the majesty and magic of the Angkor temples

Today is a classic one-day tour of the Angkor temple complex.

Begin early with your guide and driver collecting you from your hotel at 7am (we recommend starting early to get ahead of some of the larger tour groups). Start with Angkor Wat itself - the iconic and best preserved of the Angkor temples. Accompanied by your guide, enter from East, the back entrance, take your time at the temple and walk through to the front entrance where your driver will be waiting for you.

Enjoy a relaxed lunch in Siem Reap before heading to the South Gate of Angkor Thom, where you’ll begin your exploration of the centrepiece of this ancient city, Bayon. The Bayon temple has 54 towers, all with a smiling Buddha face in each of the four directions. The tour also visits the Royal EnclosurePhimeanakas, the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of Leper Kings, as well as Ta Prohm - the jungle temple that has been overtaken by trees made famous by the movie Tomb Raider.

In the afternoon you will be taken back to your hotel in Siem Reap.

Please note: When visiting the temples of Angkor you will need to ensure your shoulders are covered and wear trousers / skirts that cover your knees.

Overnight in Siem Reap: La Niche d’ Angkor Boutique Hotel - Deluxe Room (Standard); Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room (Deluxe); Angkor Palace Resort & Spa - Deluxe Room (Super Deluxe)

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch

Day 3: Kampong Phluk Floating Villages

This morning after breakfast, your driver and guide will collect you and take you to visit the Kampong Phluk floating villages.

The villages are primarily Khmer and have about 3000 inhabitants between them. During the dry season (March – July) when the water levels of the lake are low, the buildings sit high on their 6 metre stilts. At this time of year many of the villagers move out onto the lake and build temporary houses.

In the wet season when water level rises (August – February), the villagers move back to their permanent houses on the floodplain and the stilts are now hidden under the water. Kampong Phluk's economy is, as one might expect, based on fishing, primarily shrimp harvesting.

After your time here you will be taken back to your hotel. The afternoon is at your leisure.

In the evening, you may wish to visit Pub Street where you can find many restaurants and bars, as well as the night markets. The hotel staff can help you with a tuk tuk to get you there.

Overnight in Siem Reap: La Niche d’ Angkor Boutique Hotel - Deluxe Room (Standard); Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room (Deluxe); Angkor Palace Resort & Spa - Deluxe Room (Super Deluxe)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 4: More temples: Banteay Srei, Banteay Samre & Pre Rup

Today visit some temples that are a little further out and which involve a pleasant drive through the countryside. These temples are less busy than the main temples and were the ones Nikki and Nicola most enjoyed on their visit in March 2019.

Your driver will collect you at 7am and take you to the small and beautiful temple of Banteay Srei, built for the worship women. This temple is largely built of pink sandstone, a harder rock that can be more elaborately carved and better survives the rigours of time.

Continue on to Banteay Samre – its rose-colored sandstone walls are decorated with carvings and bas-reliefs, which are among the most accomplished Angkor has to offer. Visit Pre Rup - a large temple-mountain, that contains well-preserved carvings of fine detail before being taken back your hotel.

Overnight in Siem Reap: La Niche d’ Angkor Boutique Hotel - Deluxe Room (Standard); Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room (Deluxe); Angkor Palace Resort & Spa - Deluxe Room (Super Deluxe)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 5: Fly to Sihanoukville, take the speedboat to Koh Rong

After breakfast, your driver will collect you and take you to the Siem Reap Airport for your flight to Sihanoukville. On arrival, you will be met and taken to the pier for your 45 minute speedboat to Koh Rong. (Please note, the speed boat is shared and not private).

Once a sleepy wilderness, Koh Rong is emerging as an island destination with its white sand beaches and clear waters. You'll be met at the ferry terminal and taken to the resort. After checking in, the rest of the day is free for you to enjoy as you please (don’t miss the stunning sunset!)

Overnight in Koh Rong: Sok San Beach Resort - Pavilion Garden View Room (Standard) and Pavilion Sea View Room (Deluxe and Super Deluxe)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 6: At leisure on the island of Koh Rong

Enjoy a lie-in and breakfast before planning your free time. The main attractions on Koh Rong are the superb white sandy beaches and your chosen resort is right on one of the best!

Sok San Beach, also known as Long Beach, offers 7km of unspoilt sand and sea which is tailor-made for sunbathing and swimming. More energetic visitors can walk to the local fishing village at the north end of the beach or hike the rugged jungle trail to Koh Tuch Beach, about 1.5 miles each way.

Overnight in Koh Rong: Sok San Beach Resort - Pavilion Garden View Room (Standard) and Pavilion Sea View Room (Deluxe and Super Deluxe)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 7: More island beach time in Koh Rong

Enjoy another free day at leisure on the beautiful beach of Koh Rong.

Or if you are wanting something more active, there are a range of activities available at the resort such as horse riding, snorkelling, fishing, kayaking and more. You can arrange these with the resort staff and pay directly.

Overnight in Koh Rong: Sok San Beach Resort - Pavilion Garden View Room (Standard) and Pavilion Sea View Room (Deluxe and Super Deluxe)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 8: Transfer to Phnom Penh and on to your next adventure

After breakfast, take the speed boat back to the mainland where your driver will be waiting for you to take you back to Phnom Penh and onto the airport for your departure flight. The drive is around 4 hours and will be with driver only (no guide).

Travelbay Cambodia Tours - 8 Day Temples and beach holiday map

How to get there:
This tour starts in Siem Reap and ends in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Travelbay works together with an excellent corporate flight booking company and is happy to provide you with a quote and organise your flights. We charge a $50 booking fee for this service. Alternatively, if you would like to arrange flights yourself you can find more information and suggestions here.

If you are wanting to know more about how far it is between destinations and how long your flight will take, you can visit and use their trip calculator.

To help you calculate the time difference we recommend World Time Buddy.

Visa information:
If a visa is required for any country you are visiting it is each travellers responsibility to ensure they have obtained a valid visa prior to travel. Every country has different requirements and it also depends on the nationality of the passport you are travelling on.

To find out the visa requirements for your destination, you can check here with Visalink.

If a visa is required you can use the services on the same link, or you may wish to apply directly yourself.

In addition to the above link, we have provided some more information on visas here: Visa Information page

Please note: Every country has different visa requirements and charges. To support we attempt to provide you with the latest information and links. However, please be aware that it is each traveller’s responsibility (and not Travelbay’s) to ensure that you have a valid visa if required for any country you visit.

Currency information:
Both the US Dollar and the Cambodian Riel are accepted in Cambodia.

There are ATM machines available (you can withdraw USD).

If you have any plans to use your card overseas, you should let your bank know to avoid them freezing any 'suspicious' activity.

Tipping and tour guides:
Tipping is entirely at your discretion.

In response to some customers questions here are a few guidelines:

It is usual to tip the guides, drivers, porters and waiters.

Tipping is not necessary for taxis or for cheaper restaurants. Remember, it’s a good idea to check if service charges are included in your restaurant bill. If not, a tip of 10% of the total bill is normal.

Below are a few general guidelines to support you with tipping, however please be aware that tipping is a sign of gratification for good service, and therefore view the guidelines as the middle ground, which can be adjusted depending on the level of service you feel you have received.

  • Guides: USD 3-5 per person per day
  • Drivers: USD 2-3 per person per day

You may wish to check if you will have the same guide and driver for the duration of your time in one location and tip them on your last day with them.

Tipping tip: It can be handy to have small notes for tipping.

Safety tips:
Please remember to take care of yourself and your belongings at all times when travelling. We recommend using an over the shoulder bag /handbag with a zip to keep your belongings safe and secure.

Extra travel tips:
When visiting temples and palaces (including Angkor Wat) you will need to ensure your shoulders are covered and wear trousers / skirts that cover your knees.

Take extra water, especially on visits to the temples. It is hot in Cambodia and whilst your tour guide will have some water for you in the car, it is likely you will need more than one small bottle.

Vaccination information:
Travelbay recommends you check with your doctor as to any immunisations that you may require or that are recommended for your travels.  Alternatively, you can visit The Travel Doctor or Travelvax for more information.

Electricity and Adaptors
A useful resource to find out what plug or adaptor you might need for any country can be found by clicking here: and then selecting the country or countries you are visiting.

Cambodia lies in the tropics meaning that it is warm to hot year round and the climate is dominated by the alternating wet and dry seasons.

Please note April can be very hot. The rains come in May which tends to cool things down. In August, September and October the rains can be heavy during the day

Dry season: November to May
Wet season: June to October
Peak season: November to December is the peak season for travel in Cambodia.

The New Year (Chaul Chnam Thmey)) is celebrated from April 13 – 16 and in some places the celebrations can last even longer. The whole country celebrates, and many people travel home to their families. Travel at this time is not recommended.

Population: 15.15 million

Language: Khmer

Predominant religion: Buddhism (95%)

Some interesting facts:
It's hard to look past the dark history of the Pol Pot regime in the 1970’s where the Khmer Rouge terrorised the nation. From 1975-1979 over 2 million people were killed, some estimates are closer to 3 million. As a result the country has spent the last 30-40 years rebuilding itself.

Around half of the population is under 15.

The Tonle Sap Lake goes from 3,000 km2 in the dry season to 4 times the size (12,000 km2) in the wet season.

Cambodia was a French colony until 1953. Many of the older generation speak French and there is a legacy of French bakeries throughout the country.

Angkor Wat was built in the early 12th century and is the largest religious monument in the world.
