See the best of what Cambodia has to offer on this wonderful Travelbay 15 Day Private Tour. Experience the unique culture of Cambodia, the temples, beaches, jungle and small towns. We have designed this holiday to offer you a slightly different look at the Kingdom of Cambodia. From the city of Phnom Penh to the seaside town of Kep, the island beaches of Koh Rong, local life in Battambang, amazing temples in Siem Reap and more, our carefully planned itinerary also touches on the brutal rule of Cambodia under Pol Pot in the late 1970s.

This Private Tour is a combination of day tours and free time allowing you the space to enjoy Cambodia at a relaxed pace. If you would like to arrange any additional day tours or half day tours, this can be easily done directly with the hotels at the time and thus gives you the freedom to choose according to your preference. Alternatively, if you would like to pre book please let us know and we can provide you with some options and a quote.

If you want to stay on longer in Cambodia, let us know and we can arrange it for you. We also offer Tailor Made Tours - feel free to contact us for more information.

This is a Private Tour meaning you get your own personal guide, driver and private car.

Please note: We do not offer the tour from July to early October as this is the rainy season when the weather in Koh Rong is not ideal for a beach stay.

* Price includes 14 nights' accommodation, private transfers, your own personal guide and driver, 15 meals and more. Price does not include international flights to Cambodia.

We would be happy to provide you with a quote for international flights. Flights from Australia to Siem Reap are approximately $1000-$1200 per person return. The actual price varies depending on departure city, time of year and luck of the draw!

Day 1: Arrival in Phnom Penh

Arrive in Phnom Penh where you will be met on arrival and taken to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day/evening is free for you to relax.

Overnight in Phnom Penh: King Grand Boutique - Deluxe Room (3 Star); Villa Langka Boutique - Superior Room (4 Star); Palace Gate Hotel & Resort - Royal Deluxe Room with View (5 Star)

Day 2: Phnom Penh City Tour, Genocide Museum and Killing Fields

After breakfast, your guide will take you on a city tour to see the highlights of Phnom Penh including the Independence Monument which commemorates Cambodia’s independence from France in 1953. Visit the 14th century Wat Phnom, the tallest and most significant temple in the city before heading to the Royal Palace. Built in 1866 by King Norodom, the palace is now home to the current King. Within the palace grounds you will find the coronation hall, an open air theatre for the Royal Dance Troupe, and the King’s private residence. The palace is open to the public except when the King is in residence. The grounds also house the Silver Pagoda, named because the floor is covered with 5,000 silver tiles each weighing 1 kilogram.

Next, visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, which documents the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge against both their political enemies and many thousands of everyday Cambodians. In 1975 this former high school was taken over by Pol Pot's security forces and converted into Security Prison 21 (S-21). It soon became the largest detention and torture centre in the country. Please note that the images on display are graphic and unsettling.

Continue on to Choeung Ek - The Killing Fields, where the brutal executions of more than 17,000 men, women and children took place. The Genocide Museum and Killing Fields can be quite a shock and give you much to ponder on. It’s a little different than usual holiday activities, however in our view something the world needs to know about and something we recommend and were personally deeply touched by.

If time permits, end your city tour at the domed Central Market (Psar Thmei) with countless stalls stacked high with goods ranging from gold and silver to exotic flowers, food and souvenirs. Your driver and guide will take you back your hotel for a second night’s stay.

Please note: When visiting the Royal Palace you will need to ensure your shoulders are covered and wear trousers / skirts that cover your knees.

Optional add-on: Book a trip to the Cambodian Circus at Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPSA) in Battambang. This is available on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays only from 19:00 – 20:15. Take the slow boat (shared boat) and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Sangke River and across the Tonle Sap Great Lake. Depending on the water level, the boat trip can take around 6 hours in high water (August through February) and 7-8 hours in the low-water season (March through July). Your driver will be waiting to meet you on your arrival in Siem Reap and will take you to your hotel.

If you prefer to travel by car, please let us know and we can arrange this for you. There will be an additional charge of around USD25 per person depending on the group size.

Overnight in Siem Reap: La Niche D'Angkor - Deluxe Room (3 Star); Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room (4 Star); Angkor Palace Resort - Deluxe Room (5 Star)

Day 12: Full Day tour of the majesty and magic of the Angkor temples

Today is a classic one-day tour of the Angkor temple complex.

Begin early with your guide and driver collecting you from your hotel at 7am (we recommend starting early to get ahead of some of the larger tour groups). Start with Angkor Wat itself - the iconic and best preserved of the Angkor temples. Accompanied by your guide, enter from East, the back entrance, take your time at the temple and walk through to the front entrance where your driver will be waiting for you.

Enjoy a relaxed lunch in Siem Reap before heading to the South Gate of Angkor Thom, where you’ll begin your exploration of the centrepiece of this ancient city, Bayon. The Bayon temple has 54 towers, all with a smiling Buddha face in each of the four directions. The tour also visits the Royal EnclosurePhimeanakas, the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of Leper Kings, as well as Ta Prohm - the jungle temple that has been overtaken by trees made famous by the movie Tomb Raider.

In the afternoon you will be taken back to your hotel in Siem Reap.

Please note: When visiting the temples of Angkor you will need to ensure your shoulders are covered and wear trousers / skirts that cover your knees.

Overnight in Siem Reap: La Niche D'Angkor - Deluxe Room (3 Star); Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room (4 Star); Angkor Palace Resort - Deluxe Room (5 Star)

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch

Day 13: More temples: Banteay Srei, Banteay Samre & Pre Rup

Today visit some temples that are a little further out and which involve a pleasant drive through the countryside. These temples are less busy than the main temples and were the ones Nikki and Nicola most enjoyed on their visit in March 2019.

Your driver will collect you at 7am and take you to the small and beautiful temple of Banteay Srei, built for the worship women. This temple is largely built of pink sandstone, a harder rock that can be more elaborately carved and better survives the rigours of time.

Continue on to Banteay Samre – its rose-colored sandstone walls are decorated with carvings and bas-reliefs, which are among the most accomplished Angkor has to offer. Visit Pre Rup - a large temple-mountain, that contains well-preserved carvings of fine detail before being taken back your hotel.

In the evening, you may wish to visit Pub Street where you can find many restaurants and bars, as well as the night markets. The hotel staff can help you with a tuk tuk to get you there.

Overnight in Siem Reap: La Niche D'Angkor - Deluxe Room (3 Star); Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room (4 Star); Angkor Palace Resort - Deluxe Room (5 Star)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 14: A day of leisure

Travelbay Cambodia Tours - 15 Day Ultimate Map

How to get there:
This tour starts in Phnom Penh and ends in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Travelbay works together with an excellent corporate flight booking company and is happy to provide you with a quote and organise your flights. We charge a $50 booking fee for this service. Alternatively, if you would like to arrange flights yourself you can find more information and suggestions here.

If you are wanting to know more about how far it is between destinations and how long your flight will take, you can visit and use their trip calculator.

To help you calculate the time difference we recommend World Time Buddy.

Visa information:
If a visa is required for any country you are visiting it is each travellers responsibility to ensure they have obtained a valid visa prior to travel. Every country has different requirements and it also depends on the nationality of the passport you are travelling on.

To find out the visa requirements for your destination, you can check here with Visalink.

If a visa is required you can use the services on the same link, or you may wish to apply directly yourself.

In addition to the above link, we have provided some more information on visas here: Visa Information page

Please note: Every country has different visa requirements and charges. To support we attempt to provide you with the latest information and links. However, please be aware that it is each traveller’s responsibility (and not Travelbay’s) to ensure that you have a valid visa if required for any country you visit.

Currency information:
Both the US Dollar and the Cambodian Riel are accepted in Cambodia.

There are ATM machines available (you can withdraw USD).

If you have any plans to use your card overseas, you should let your bank know to avoid them freezing any 'suspicious' activity.

Tipping and tour guides:
Tipping is entirely at your discretion.

In response to some customers questions here are a few guidelines:

It is usual to tip the guides, drivers, porters and waiters.

Tipping is not necessary for taxis or for cheaper restaurants. Remember, it’s a good idea to check if service charges are included in your restaurant bill. If not, a tip of 10% of the total bill is normal.

Below are a few general guidelines to support you with tipping, however please be aware that tipping is a sign of gratification for good service, and therefore view the guidelines as the middle ground, which can be adjusted depending on the level of service you feel you have received.

  • Guides: USD 3-5 per person per day
  • Drivers: USD 2-3 per person per day

You may wish to check if you will have the same guide and driver for the duration of your time in one location and tip them on your last day with them.

Tipping tip: It can be handy to have small notes for tipping.

Safety tips:
Please remember to take care of yourself and your belongings at all times when travelling. We recommend using an over the shoulder bag /handbag with a zip to keep your belongings safe and secure.

When in Phnom Penh please be extra alert as when we (Nikki and Nicola) visited, our tour guide and driver informed us there had been a few incidences of tourists having their mobile phones snatched whilst in the street taking photos – also good not to flash your wallet about. None of our customers have had any issues to date and neither did we. We do have the extra protection of the drivers and guides – however still good to always stay alert and sensible!

Extra travel tips:
When visiting temples and palaces (including Angkor Wat) you will need to ensure your shoulders are covered and wear trousers / skirts that cover your knees.

Take extra water, especially on visits to the temples. It is hot in Cambodia and whilst your tour guide will have some water for you in the car, it is likely you will need more than one small bottle.

Vaccination information:
Travelbay recommends you check with your doctor as to any immunisations that you may require or that are recommended for your travels.  Alternatively, you can visit The Travel Doctor or Travelvax for more information.

Electricity and Adaptors
A useful resource to find out what plug or adaptor you might need for any country can be found by clicking here: and then selecting the country or countries you are visiting.

Cambodia lies in the tropics meaning that it is warm to hot year round and the climate is dominated by the alternating wet and dry seasons.

Please note April can be very hot. The rains come in May which tends to cool things down. In August, September and October the rains can be heavy during the day

Dry season: November to May
Wet season: June to October
Peak season: November to December is the peak season for travel in Cambodia.

The New Year (Chaul Chnam Thmey)) is celebrated from April 13 – 16 and in some places the celebrations can last even longer. The whole country celebrates, and many people travel home to their families. Travel at this time is not recommended.

Language: Khmer

Predominant religion: Buddhism (95%)

Population: 15.15 million

Some interesting facts:
It's hard to look past the dark history of the Pol Pot regime in the 1970’s where the Khmer Rouge terrorised the nation. From 1975-1979 over 2 million people were killed, some estimates are closer to 3 million. As a result the country has spent the last 30-40 years rebuilding itself.

Around half of the population is under 15.

It was the Vietnamese who eventually stepped in to help Cambodia oust Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in 1979.

The Tonle Sap Lake goes from 3,000 km2 in the dry season to 4 times the size (12,000 km2) in the wet season.

Cambodia was a French colony until 1953. Many of the older generation speak French and there is a legacy of French bakeries throughout the country.

Angkor Wat was built in the early 12th century and is the largest religious monument in the world.
