ITINERARY

Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc - Ho Chi Minh City: 5 days

Enjoy 5 days on the tropical island of Phu Quoc off the South coast of Vietnam. It's a wonderful place to take a beach break or lounge by the resort pool. You can also enjoy the rainforest (nearly half the island is National Park), great food, night markets, boat trips to offshore islands, diving, swimming, snorkelling and more.  

Many customers add a Phu Quoc island beach break onto one of our other Vietnam Tours or combine it with a holiday in Cambodia, Myanmar or Laos. 

This package includes return flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc. If you would prefer to purchase the package without the flights, please let us know and we can quote for you.

Please note: We offer this beach holiday from late November through to the end of April - this is when the beach is at its best. From May to early November it is the rainy season where the sea will not be so clear and there can be strong winds. If you would like to travel to Phu Quoc during these months, please let us know and we can get a quote for you.

Day 1: Fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc

Begin in Ho Chi Minh City with a short flight to Phu Quoc. On arrival in Phu Quoc you will be met at the airport and taken to your resort. Enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of the island - a great opportunity to relax and rejuvenate. You can spend time at your beach resort, snorkel, take beach walks - do as you please.

Day 2 : Enjoy the beaches and beauty of Phu Quoc

Enjoy the island at your leisure. 

Aside from beachside activities and relaxing, you may like to explore traditional villages, nature parks or Buddhist pagodas - all of which are easily accessible via motorcycle, taxi and bus and can be arranged when in Phu Quoc.

There are restaurants that cater for all budgets - from local markets selling fresh seafood to Vietnamese street food, quirky cafes, expat-owned bistros offering authentic Western and European fare and much more.

Day 3: Explore Phu Quoc - pearl farm, wine factory, fishing village, Bai Sao Beach & more

This morning you will be taken on a private tour to visit a pearl farm where you can learn about the cultured pearl industry. Continue on to the Sim Wine factory to see how local wines are made, as well as have a wine tasting. 

Visit the Ham Ninh Fishing village to get a glimpse of daily life on Phu Quoc and stop at the Ho Quoc pagoda.

Continue on to Bai Sao beach where you will have lunch and can take a swim and relax. After your time here, visit the infamous Coconut prison to learn about the history of Vietnam and take a short walk to the fish sauce factory to see the production process.

Depending on the season, your final stop is the scenic Tranh stream (Tranh stream is not available during the rainy season from May to October).

Today you will be taken to the airport for your flight back to Ho Chi Minh City. The room is at your disposal until 12pm.

From here you can connect with your onward flight (we can match the departure flight from Phu Quoc to suit) or you may like to extend your time in Ho Chi Minh City, elsewhere in Vietnam or continue on to Cambodia or Laos

 

All accommodation and hotels are subject to change. If the stated hotel is not available a hotel of a similar standard and location will be booked.

    This tour starts and ends in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

    Visa information: 
    If a visa is required for any country you are visiting it is each travellers responsibility to ensure they have obtained a valid visa prior to travel. Every country has different requirements and it also depends on the nationality of the passport you are travelling on.

    Currency information:
    The currency used in Vietnam is the Vietnamese Dong. 

    There are ATM machines available (you can withdraw USD). Occasionally the older ATM's do not accept Australian debit cards and you may need to try a different ATM. 

    From our personal experience, in Vietnam we found the best exchange rate was on taking AUD into a bank and exchanging for dong. Please keep in mind that banks are closed on weekends.

    If you have any plans to use your card overseas, you should let your bank know to avoid them freezing any 'suspicious' activity.

     

    Tipping and Tour Guides:
    Tipping is entirely at your discretion.

    In response to some customers questions here are a few guidelines:

    It is usual to tip the guides, drivers, porters and waiters.

    Tipping is not necessary for taxis or for cheaper restaurants. Remember, it’s a good idea to check if service charges are included in your restaurant bill. If not, a tip of 10% of the total bill is normal.

    Below are a few general guidelines to support you with tipping, however please be aware that tipping is a sign of gratification for good service, and therefore view the guidelines as the middle ground, which can be adjusted depending on the level of service you feel you have received.

    • Guides: USD 3-5 per person per day
    • Drivers: USD 2-3 per person per day

    You may wish to check if you will have the same guide and driver for the duration of your time in one location and tip them on your last day with them.

    Tipping tip: It can be handy to have small notes for tipping.

     

    Vaccination Information:

    Phu Quoc has a tropical monsoon climate. November to April is the dry season in Phu Quoc where you are likely to see sunny skies and enjoy beach weather. 

    Most rainfall is between July and September and the off season (when it's not always great beach weather) is from May to October.

      Language: Vietnamese

      Predominant religion: 81% of the population has no religion followed by 9% Buddhist

      Some interesting facts:
      The Vietnamese language has six different tones. A change in tone changes the meaning of the word making the language somewhat difficult to learn (but English is widely spoken and the friendly locals are more than happy to help you with your Vietnamese pronunciation).

      Vietnam is one of the world’s last surviving one-party Communist states.

      Booking Process:

      Upon purchase of your tour online you will immediately receive a receipt and order confirmation. Travelbay will contact the tour operator to confirm availability for all accommodation and transportation for your tour.

      As soon as we have confirmed the dates (usually within 48 hours sometimes a little longer at weekends) we will email you your booking confirmation.

      We will request further information from you to ensure that all your personal preferences are taken care of. This will include details such as your accommodation preferences, dietary requests, allergies, health issues, emergency contact and any special requirements. We will also request copies of the passport for each traveller so that we can organise and book all the flights that are listed as being included in the price of this tour.

      Very Important:

      It is extremely rare for any of these tours to not have availability (as we remove them when full) however, it is important to note that your dates are only confirmed once we have been in touch with you to confirm availability. Therefore, please wait on purchasing your international flights until you have received booking confirmation from us.

      In the unlikely event that there is no availability on your chosen date we will offer you alternate dates. If these do not suit we will fully refund your payment.

      Booking Information:

      • Quoted prices are per person.
      • Booking valid for selected and booked travel dates.
      • Please book at least 30 days prior to your desired date of travel.

      • Prices are based on twin share (2 people per room). If you would like a single room or if you are a single traveller, please please contact us for a quote.

      • If you would like to spend longer in Phu Quoc, or not as long, please contact us for a quote. 
      • Prior to completion of your booking we take great care to go through all the details together with you until we get everything exactly as you would like it. At that point we confirm your booking and the details and you pay for it. If after payment, you decide to make further changes we will do what we can to accommodate them and will also need to charge an additional $50 administration fee.

        • Check-in & check-out time: generally, check in is after 2 pm and check out before 12 pm. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to room availability and may generate additional full day room rate.
      • Daily breakfast (4) and one lunch.
      • Domestic flights: Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc and Phu Quoc – Ho Chi Minh City.
        • 20kg checked baggage, 7kg hand baggage.

        • This package, including any unused portion, cannot be exchanged for other services or cash.
        • Some accommodation providers may require that you present a credit card or cash deposit upon check-in to cover any additional expenses that may be incurred during your stay, for example mini-bar. You are responsible for the payment of any such additional expenses.
        • Please check baggage allowance prior to travel. The allowance may vary according to the destination, airline, cruise or coach operator. You are responsible for any excess baggage fees.

        • Passport and visa regulations can change and it is your responsibility to ensure that you possess the relevant travel documents before you travel. Delays can be experienced in obtaining a passport or visa, so you are advised to apply in plenty of time. We accept no responsibility in any regard in relation to customers who are denied entry to a country because they do not possess the correct travel documents.
        • It is also your responsibility to ensure that you hold a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond your date of return. If you hold multiple passports, you may be required to present your passport of residence on departing that country. If you hold a passport for a country to which you are travelling, you may be obliged to produce that passport on entering the country. Accordingly, you could be obliged to carry more than one passport when travelling overseas. You should make your own enquiries in relation to your specific circumstances and requirements.
        • It is your responsibility to ensure that all your details are recorded correctly. Any request for a name change after documents have been issued may incur amendment fees or result in the original booking being cancelled and in the case of airlines, the loss of a seat.
        • When purchasing flights, cruises and other carriage and travel services, the name on the passport must match the name on the ticket otherwise you may not be able to travel and insurance may be invalid. If, after purchasing products or services but before traveling, any member of your party changes their name you must notify the relevant carrier, or us, immediately so that the necessary changes can be made to your documentation. You may incur a fee.
